TO SUCCEED IN LIFE: 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD GIVE UP…A MUST READ

We all have numerous habits that impact us in a negative way. To be honest, most of these behaviours come from negative thinking. If we can completely give up negative thinking, then we’d be able to eliminate them all in one go. Negative thinking is like poisoning your own mind and life; we mention this over and over again – negative thoughts create negative events. You may find our post on 5 simple ways to live a positive life useful as a general guide to transforming your life into a more positive one. Nevertheless, we’ve listed specific behaviours below that can help us feel good right away, once we get rid of them.

So here are 10 things you should give up:

1. Give up self-doubt

Our minds produce all these ideas about what we can or cannot do, based on assumptions that we make, or that we let other people make for us. This all comes down to limited beliefs. Just remember that reality is just a result of our perception; everything that’s around us, is only what we believe is there. Stop thinking about the impossibilities in the world, and start thinking about all the possibilities that can exist. Allow yourself to experience the life you want by giving up self-doubt.

“What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” – Erin Hanson

2. Give up fear

We’ve written a whole post on why fear is pointless. However, to sum it up, fear does not actually exist. It’s an illusion of the mind. As comical as this may sound, we tend to worry about things that haven’t even happened yet, all because the mind tells us to expect the worst. As Law of Attraction enthusiasts, we can tell you that if you expect the worst, you open yourself up to receive the worst. Let it go and live your life in confidence, so that you can make the most out of it.

3. Give up procrastination

This is often led by fear, self-doubt and pure laziness. We must realise that the more we procrastinate, the more we assassinate our dreams. We often get too comfortable with our present, that we resist any sort of change. Yet the only way you can see change in your life, is to make change(s). There literally is no time like the present! Putting things off is the number one trait of chronic procrastinators. Remember, time is a gift – one that’s never promised. By procrastinating, you assume that you have a certain amount of time in this world. Eliminate this common behaviour; go in the direction of whatever it is you want to do, or need to do, with a positive mind-set. Embrace all change!

“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.”  – Napoleon Hill

4. Give up criticising

This includes yourself and others. Nobody in the world is perfect or flawless. Perfection is perceived, and even then, we often describe perfection with what others may see as flaws. People are quick to judge; they criticise people and things that are different to them. However, everyone is unique in their own way because they offer something different to the world. We are all human beings and seeds of the same source. We all want to be accepted, understood, happy and loved. Love yourself first, so that you can love and be loved, by others.

 5. Give up trying to please everyone

This is just way too common! Most of the time, when you try and please everyone, you end up pleasing no-one. It’s understandable, that in life, you want to please certain people. For example, with family – you don’t want to let them down because of the love and support they’ve given you, so you try and please them. However, no-one has to live your life apart from you. We all have inners truths; we know what gives us fulfilment. If we are not satisfied, we cannot satisfy others – no matter how close they are to us. There’s no winner in the situation. Live your life in your way; you weren’t born to please everyone in the world. Not everyone will understand what you do and why you do it. Nor will everyone receive your energy well. That’s fine! Be happy, be grateful, demonstrate love and be purposeful. Once you live your life as the real you, your true life will begin, and you will draw in or keep the people that really matter, effortlessly.

“You can’t please everyone, nor should you seek to, because then you won’t please anyone, least of all yourself.” – Dylan Moran

6. Give up comparing yourself

This is a common habit where people look at someone who has something they don’t have, and become saddened by it. As we mentioned before, we’re all unique and this gives us identity in the world. We also have different paths and purposes in life. Stop trying to be like other people, and stop comparing your life to theirs. Be yourself and live your life at your own pace. Focus on what you want to achieve and you’ll get there. You should never make yourself feel less than others, or inadequate, by comparing yourself. Everyone has something that another person lacks. Be grateful for your gifts and embrace your path to greatness, while you shine.

“I generally find that comparison is the fast track to unhappiness.” – Jack Canfield

7. Give up complaining

No-one likes being around a person that moans a lot. You get those individuals who always have something negative to say – don’t be that person! That energy isn’t pleasant for anyone who’s around you. Good Vibes Only #GVO! Start being appreciative; be thankful. An attitude of gratitude is the way forward. We only complain because we expect certain things or people to be a certain way. When you trade expectation with appreciation, not only will you complain less, but you’ll attract positive things into your life as you send out good energy to the Universe!

8. Give up anything you can’t change

The first thing that probably comes to your head here, is the past. You’re quite right. We cannot change the past, so we should spend no more time dwelling on it. The present moment is all you ever have and all you’ll ever have. The future is what you create. So you need to spend your time in the present, being joyful and creating a pleasant future. What occurs in any moment of our lives, is always a result of our past. There’s also things such as the weather or people around us, that we can’t change. We need to accept these things and either make the best out of them, move ourselves away from them, or be so positive that they have no affect on us at all.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

9. Give up gossiping

Sometimes you’ll find that people are more interested in other people’s lives than their own. This is outrageous! You should be putting all your energy and focus into your own life – unless of course, it’s your profession to help others. We’ve already mentioned that time is valuable; any time you spend, will be time that you’ll never get back. So do not spend it discussing others, when you could be spending it doing something useful with your own life and creating positive changes! Sometimes people make mistakes and do things that we don’t agree with. Or sometimes, people’s lives seem more interesting than our own – that’s exactly why we need to spend time making our lives interesting! Focusing on someone else’s life has no relevance on your own. If you do it for inspiration, take the inspiration and instantly start applying it in your own life. You do not need to invest any energy or time on gossiping. Most of us don’t like it when others gossip about us, so why gossip about others?

10. Give up letting others get to you

The key word in this is letting. You have a choice; you can let the opinion of others affect you, or you can simply choose to ignore it and move forward with your life, in your own way. Opinions aren’t facts, but they have the potential to change our reality, if we accept them as true. Some people will say negative things to you because they are unhappy with their own lives – always remember that. You do not need to stoop down to their level. Let those that are negative do as they wish, the only life that they will impact is their own, unless you allow them to impact yours too. Don’t let someone else’s problem become your problem as well.

“Stop allowing other people to dilute or poison your day with their words or opinions. Stand strong in the truth of your beauty and journey through your day without attachment to the validation of others.” – Steve Maraboli

So there you have it, that’s 10 things you should give up to feel more positive.
